Once the carp is out of the water, place it on an unhooking mat and carefully remove your (barbless) hook. Take the opportunity to check that no other hooks are in its mouth and in the unlikely case there is a previous hook then try to remove it too.
Take any photo with speed and keep the carp low holding it near the ground as shown - you may need to cup your hands around its body. The carp's heart is just below the pectoral fin, along with other key organs, so don't hold it there. Return the carp carefully into the water as soon as possible and aim for two minutes maximum time for its return.
