FISHING is often perceived as a male dominated sport which is a bit unfair. Some facts....
The earliest known fishing book was written by a woman, Dame Juliana Berners in 1496. She called the book "The Treatyse of Fyshinge wyth Angle".
The largest salmon ever caught in this country was landed by a woman, Georginina Ballantine in 1922 (see pic opposite). There're plenty of modern firsts too - see giant catfish in photo of the month.
There're lots of female anglers who fish Trow Pool and our Treasurer is female not to mention Dr Carp! So where's all this leading to?
Well, if you're a female or even a male angler who knows a female who might be interested, then let us know as we're thinking of organising a ladies' fishing day.
Don't worry if you're a bit screamish about putting maggots on hooks cos you can be a "vegetarian angler" and only use cheese, bread, potato and other suitable baits!
We may also be able to supply all the tackle.
Contact Diann Welsh for the details.
