Two types of legering

Legering involves fishing off the bottom which is an ideal place to start as food will naturally fall there.

There are many different methods of legering but I shall explain the basics.

The minimium tackle you'll need is as shown. Use either a bomb (lead free weight) as in "A" or a pierced ball or bullet as in "B". In both methods you'll need to place a small weight between the hook and leger weight to prevent it from sliding towards the hook.

You can vary the distance of the leger weight from the hook, but generally it's between 300mm to 100mm. If the distance is too short and you're fishing in a silty bottom then your hook may be pulled under.
