If you walk across a sandy beach near the shoreline then you'll leave an imprint of your journey - footprints in the sand. These prints will not last long but will soon disappear as the waves come in.
Carp feeding on the bottom leave a similar tell tail sign. As they rummage in the mud and debris at the bottom of Trow Pool, they cause bubbles to rise to the surface. If you spot these bubbles, and they move too (see pic), then you can guarantee that carp or tench are feeding. Gingerly casting your bait near the bubbles will increase your changes of catching as you know that carp or tench are feeding below.
Don't be fooled by the occasional bubble or two that will always rise to the surface in still water. This does not show carp but is merely the slow release of gasses from the bottom.
