BLACKBERRIES (latin: rubus fruticosus ) photographed at Trow Pool in early September 2007.
These are free and available at a hedge near you. Just walk down the concrete road that runs parallel with the motorway on the way down to Trow Pool and the bushes are on the left hand side.
When the fruit is ripe and ready to pick, it heralds the first signs of a crisp autumn and goodbye summer.
If you do pick them for jam making please leave some berries for the wildlife too!
