COMMON POPPY (latin: papaver rhoeas) photographed at Trow Pool, July 2008 and quite common. Look out for it between June-August.
My favourite flower, a weed but what a beauty!
Flowers 70 -100mm across with four papery, scarlet petals. Found on arable land and disturbed ground.
Avoid the seed capsule (top right) as it might contain drugs!
The small black blobs are insects feeding on pollen.
