Pair of Canadian Geese seen at Trow on 4-5-08Canadian Geese occasionally visit in pairs – see picture taken on 5/5/08. They're loud and noisy and often produce a honking sound that can be very irritating (play sound).
First introduced into this country in 1665 in London shortly before the Great Fire of London although I’m not sure if they caused it!

Large in size & grey-brown with a pale breast and black neck. The head is black with a white band under the chin. Can live to 30 years in captivity but nearer 15-20 years in the wild. They feed on seeds, aquatic plants and hopefully they will try to eat all the Canadian pond weed! A group of Geese on the ground is called a gaggle and an airborne group a skein.
