You can see frog spawn and tadpoles at Trow Pool in the spring and this picture was taken on 4 May 2008.
These tadpoles are probably from a common frog, which in spite of its name, is not common in many areas of Britain these days.
They thrive in unpolluted and clean water (Trow Pool). The water needs to be warm (ish) and ideally between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius, hence they're usually found in shallow water on rocks and stones just below the surface and in full view of the sun.
The whole process of change - from tadpole to young frog – takes about 12 weeks.
