Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly (latin: aglaise urticae) snapped at Trow Pool early September 2007.
Seen on the wing March to October with two or three broads and when seen late in the year they herald the onset of Autumn.
Caterpillars feed on the common nettle.
You should easily be able to spot one as they are common and often rest on flowers to suck the necter.
