A rat snapped at Trow Pool on 4 September 2007, while it was scurrying around looking for food.
Rats feed off the bait left behind by anglers, so please don't discard bait or food, but take it home with you. They (rats), like the American Crayfish, are not strictly wildlife but vermin.
They're creatures of the dark and if you're lucky enough to fish Trow at night, you may hear them moving about. They're as scared of you as you are of them and will run for cover at the slightest sign of a human being or even an angler!
Black rats brought Bubonic Plague to England in 1665 but don't fear as this little critter is a brown rat and much more pleasing in appearance. The latin name for the rat is rattus rattus.
